Katie began her flute studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music Junior Department & DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin with Ciaran O Connell, where she completed her BMus Performance achieving 1st Class Honours. After this, she studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester for her MMus and PGDip with Laura Jellicoe, Cormac Henry, Josh Batty (flute) and Janet Richardson (piccolo).

Katie enjoys performing solo, in chamber groups and orchestral settings. Most recently, she has enjoyed discovering the Swiss music scene, performing in recitals in association with SchwyzKulturPlus in Altendorf and at the Konzertsaal Salquin in Kriens, Luzern.

She is currently playing Soloflöte in Blasorchester Stadtmusik Luzern and looks forward to a concert debut in the world class concert concert hall KKL Luzern in January 2025.

Career Highlights include:

  • Soloist at the Wigmore Hall, London - In collaboration with world famous composer Sir George Benjamin - for a performance of his piece ‘Flight’.

  • Performing with RTÉ Concert Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Ireland, Irish National Opera, Manchester Camerata, Northern Ballet, Orpheus Sinfonia, RNCM Symphony Orchestra (in side-by-side with BBC Philharmonic and Hallé players), SinfoNua and ensemble training courses with Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, regularly since 2016 in a vast amount of classical, traditional, popular and contemporary repertoire - playing 1st, 2nd, piccolo, alto & bass flutes.

  • Invitation to perform in several concerts at the 43rd Cantiere Internazionale D’arte Montepulciano - including a memorable concert playing Principal Flute in Shostakovich 5

  • Recording the album Latin Winds for Chandos with the RNCM Wind Orchestra

  • Many years of memorable chamber music with Aurora Flute & Harp Duo (2012-2018 - coached by Vanbrugh Quartet) - performing at Great Music in Irish Houses Festival, Boyne Music Festival, West Cork Chamber Music Festival, The Galway Music Residency and playing at President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins prestigious Garden Parties.

  • Enjoyable collaborations with Lír Wind Quintet (2017-2020) in a variety of educational and performance settings around the UK.

  • Winning 1st Prize in DIT Briscoe Cup (2014), and reaching the semi-finals of the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year (2015)

Masterclasses

  • Katie has benefitted over the years from attending masterclasses at Benslow Flute Summer School, Scottish International Flute School, Oxford Flute Summer School, Summer Chamber Academy for Winds, Switzerland, Clandeboye Festival with artists such as Michael Cox, Phillipa Davies, Ian Clarke, Wissam Boustany, Robert Winn, Adam Walker, Kate Hill, Patricia Morris, Sarah Newbold, Katherine Baker, Paul Edmund Davies and Kevin Gowland.
